LLS & WALGREENS

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has a long history of collaborating with Walgreens – nationally and regionally – on a range of local patient assistance initiatives, education efforts, and specialized training for Walgreens pharmacists working with cancer patients every day.

In an effort to improve the health and well-being of people living with cancer nationwide, Walgreens announced its pledge to contribute more than $17.5 million to LLS over the next five years. Through a combination of corporate donations and in-store fundraising, the commitment to LLS will enable new research in pediatric blood cancers, as well as increase access, treatment and support services for those living with these diseases.

Thank you Walgreens and their customers for raising more than $6,000,000 in the last 12 months in support of our mission!

The Challenge.

People living with cancer - including patients, family members and caregivers – have an ever greater need for information about the disease itself and about the wider physical and emotional realities related to it. Improved therapies mean that more and more people are living longer with cancer, which has increased the demand for information and support. In the U.S., a growing number of cancer patients self administer therapies at home rather than going to a cancer center for chemotherapy or radiation treatment. This means that the pharmacist is often the last healthcare provider to speak with a patient before they initiate their therapy.

The Solution.

LLS designed and launched specialized training courses for Walgreens pharmacists so they better understand cancer, gain confidence in speaking with people affected by cancer and are a resource for patients.
