Rye Brook, NY (December 13, 2016) – Burlington Stores and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light The Night Walk® campaign collaborated for the 15th consecutive year to shine a light on the urgent need for funding to help support blood cancer research and advance new treatments and cures. From September 7 through November 30, all Burlington Stores nationwide encouraged customers to donate to the cause at check-out during this 12-week in-store promotion. The campaign, featuring young “heroes” who are blood cancer survivors, raised $3.86 million, which brought Burlington’s grand total raised over 15 years to $29.4 million.
“Burlington Stores continue to be our top National Corporate Partner and Honored Friend,” said Louis J. DeGennaro, PhD, LLS president and chief executive officer. “Their dedication and commitment to LLS is helping us fund research to advance cures for patients with blood cancers. We’re so grateful to Burlington and all of its associates for their dedication to our mission and their support for LLS as we strive to create a world without blood cancers.”
“We are so proud of Burlington’s long-standing partnership with LLS and its Light The Night campaign. Giving back to the community is an important part of our heritage and I sincerely appreciate the commitment of our associates, and even more, the generosity of our customers who have helped us continue to save lives and spread the word about this important cause,” said Tom Kingsbury, President, CEO and Chairman, Burlington Stores.
LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients, and is doing more than any health non-profit organization to advance cures and access for blood cancer patients. Today, LLS is having an impact beyond the blood cancers; more than 40 percent of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA between 2000 and 2015 were first approved for blood cancer patients and many are now helping patients with other serious diseases. This would not be possible without the generosity of partners such as Burlington and their customers and associates.
