Rye Brook, NY (September 7, 2016) – Did you know that every three minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and more than 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with, or in remission from, a blood cancer? Unlike many other diseases, there are no means of preventing or screening for blood cancers. Timed to Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Burlington Stores and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) are excited to announce that today is the launch of their annual point-of-sale fundraising campaign in all 570 Burlington stores nationwide, featuring young ‘heroes,’ who are blood cancer survivors. Funds raised will help to advance research to find new treatments and cures.
Burlington Stores is proud to be the #1 National Corporate Partner and Honored Friend of LLS’s Light The Night Walk campaign. Light The Night Walks are a powerful and unique fundraising campaign of LLS, which bring together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients. Walks will take place during the fall, starting in September, in communities all across the country.
Many of the retailer’s more than 37,000 associates nationwide will participate in these inspirational Walks to honor and commemorate lives touched by cancer and to raise funds to support research.
“We are very grateful to Burlington’s leadership and their thousands of associates for their continued dedication to LLS’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families, especially during Blood Cancer Awareness Month,” said LLS President and Chief Executive Officer, Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D. “The contributions made by Burlington over the past 15 years have helped LLS fund research to advance more breakthrough therapies for blood cancer patients. They are helping us save lives not someday, but today.”
“At Burlington, we are committed to improving the lives and communities where we live and work and we are proud to be a long-time partner of LLS in the fight against blood cancers. Thanks to the kindness of our thousands of associates and millions of customers we have been able to raise more than $25 million to fund research that helps to save lives. We are looking forward to another successful campaign, raising much needed funds for life-saving treatments,” said Tom Kingsbury, Chairman and CEO, Burlington Stores.
Customers shopping at any Burlington now through November 30th can donate at checkout to benefit LLS, helping to find cures for blood cancers.
