MIDDLEBURY, CT, April 20, 2015 - Timex®, the world's leading global watch manufacturer, is proud to announce today its partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a National Sponsor of The Leukemia Cup Regatta.
The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a thrilling series of 45 sailing events in North America that combine the joy of boating with the important task of raising money to cure cancers. Throughout 2015, Timex will have a presence at select events across the country in an effort to support LLS in the fight against cancer, and will kick-off the partnership with an event at the Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis, MD on May 29, 2015.
Additionally, for each Timex Yacht Racer watch sold, Timex will donate $11 to LLS (up to $50,000) in support of its mission to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma myeloma and other blood cancers, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
"We are proud to support the incredible efforts of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and to join the fight against blood cancers," said Alan Stone-Wigg, President, Timex Group USA, Inc. "The Leukemia Cup Regatta is an exciting program that connects Timex with the sailing community to support a meaningful cause."
Timex designed the Yacht Racer with the professional skipper and the casual boating enthusiast in mind. Each of the four Timex Yacht Racer styles is as functional as it is beautiful, and is elegantly crafted with a steel case, shaped resin pushers, rich multi-layered dial and custom silicone strap. The watch features a unique bi-directional center hand that provides countdown to the start of the race and then counts up to the finish. The Timex Yacht Racer also comes with the Perfect DateTM feature, a pre-programmed date that you'll never have to set. The Timex Yacht Racer is available on Timex.com and retails for $265-$295 USD.
LLS CEO and president, Dr. Louis J. DeGennaro, expressed gratitude for Timex's support for LLS: "As the world's leading voluntary health organization dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers and ensuring that patients have access to lifesaving treatments, we are proud to join forces with Timex, an iconic brand in its own right. There are virtually no means to prevent or screen for most blood cancers, so we must focus on cures. Timex is helping us do just that."
The LLS Leukemia Cup Regatta events take place from January through October, culminating in the Fantasy Sail with Gary Jobson, a world class sailor, television commentator and author who has chaired the Leukemia Cup Regatta campaign since 1994. Fantasy Sail is an annual celebration hosted by Jobson for participants who raise $12,000 or more in donations to LLS.
"As the National Chairman of the Leukemia Cup Regatta and a lymphoma survivor, I am so appreciative of the support that Timex is providing to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," said Jobson. "We are very thankful to Timex for its generous commitment to help LLS accelerate cures and improve the quality of life for patients and their families."
