White Plains, NY: Aug. 27, 2015 – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is working with thousands of national partners, sponsors and corporate teams to fund lifesaving research and support for people battling cancer through the Light The Night® Walk (www.LightTheNight.org). Together with LLS, the Light The Night National Corporate Partner Teams are raising awareness and making a positive impact on the lives of patients today, literally, by taking steps to save lives.
In the lead-up to the Light The Night Walk, friends, families and co-workers form fundraising teams and millions of consumers help by donating at retail outlets. These efforts culminate in inspirational, memorable evening walks in nearly 200 communities across North America each fall. Participants carry illuminated lanterns – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Anyone big, small, young or old can shine a light on the importance of finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
The National Corporate Partner Team Program is an opportunity for companies and organizations that have multiple locations to participate in the Walks. Participation and support of Light The Night help to unify a company and focus their philanthropic efforts on a common goal.
“We are grateful to the companies and employees who are lending their support to this year’s Walk,” said Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer. “LLS’s Light The Night Walk funds treatments that are saving the lives of patients today. LLS is accelerating cures by providing patient support services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments and the most promising cancer research anywhere. And it’s all happening now.”
In 2014, the Light The Night Top 25 National Corporate Partner Teams raised nearly $11 million. The money raised is invested in the research of treatments and cures and patient support services that save the lives of blood cancer patients.
For the 14th consecutive year, the national off-price retailer, Burlington Stores, serves as the #1 National Corporate Partner and Honored Friend of the Light The Night Walk campaign, and is the 2014 Top Fundraising National Corporate Partner Team. Over the past 13 years, Burlington has raised more than $22 million to help fund innovative cancer research and patient services by engaging its generous customers to donate $1 or more at checkout. And thousands of its associates have participated in Light The Night Walks all across the country.
