New York, Jan. 4, 2016 – EHE International will ring in the new year supporting blood cancer awareness, featuring The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) in a window display at 10 Rockefeller Center, in New York City, throughout January. Photos featuring eight blood cancer survivors, including adults, children and their families, are displayed with facts about LLS’s impact in funding research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures, and providing critical support and information to patients and families.
LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research to advance breakthrough therapies and cures for blood cancer patients, and has contributed to increasing survival rates; since the early 1960s, five-year survival rates for many blood cancer patients have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled.
However, there are still more than one million people in the United States living with, or in remission from a blood cancer. Every three minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer. And, more than one-third of blood cancer patients do not survive five years after diagnosis. Unlike other cancers, you cannot screen for or prevent most blood cancers. That’s why LLS focuses on cures. LLS’s mission is to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
“We are so grateful to EHE International for providing us the opportunity to remind the thousands of New York City residents and visitors to the iconic Rockefeller Center destination of the urgent need to fund research to find new and better treatments and cures for blood cancers,” stated Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., LLS president and chief executive officer. “This eye-catching display is an unexpected way to capture public attention and create awareness of blood cancers and LLS’s goal to create a world without blood cancers.”
“EHE International is proud to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help educate and raise awareness about blood cancers, and encourage donations to this important cause,” said Deborah McKeever, president of EHE International.
