NEW YORK, June 16, 2020 – Individuals and communities nationwide are tapping into their inner creativity and survival skills to pivot to a virtual way of living. A campaign developed by Engine Shop, a leading engagement marketing agency, will connect a community of generous gamers with the lifesaving work of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), a global leader in the fight against cancer.
The campaign called #TiltCancer provides video gaming content creators with access to a livestream fundraising tool kit which includes a Tiltify page, Discord server, donor incentives and custom broadcast animations from Visuals by Impulse, a technology-first creative agency for gamers.
Donations to LLS will help provide critical support for patients and fund cutting-edge research to advance new and better treatments for blood cancers, like acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a cancer 14-year-old Nikolas Davison of Las Vegas has been fighting for three and a half years. Playing video games helped Nik stay positive and feel connected to his dad and friends while he was in the hospital for four straight months.
The first gaming community ambassador to offer support for the #TiltCancer initiative is one of the most prominent players in esports history. Fatal1ty, whose given name is Johnathan Wendel, has won 12 esports major championships throughout his career and recently was inducted into the Esports Hall of Fame. He now runs a company called ReadyUp, an interactive platform that helps gamers find, follow and join in events. In his free time, he also streams on Twitch. (www.twitch.tv/fatal1ty).
“My grandmother passed away from leukemia, and she was personally committed to helping researchers find a cure. In fact, the clinical tests she participated in helped her quality of life and gave us precious time to enjoy with her,” said Fatal1ty.
Video game content creators on live streaming platforms have raised more than $150 Million for charities globally since 2011, bringing their viewers together to support causes the gamers are passionate about.
“This program is very special to me because it unites my professional expertise with a cause that’s near and dear to my heart,” said Jamie King, Head of Esports, Engine Shop. “My father was diagnosed recently with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML), one of the blood cancers that The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society helps fight by investing in research to advance cures.”
“As we manage through the COVID -19 pandemic, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is doing everything possible to maintain our momentum at a time when blood cancer patients need us more than ever,” said Beth Gorman, Vice President, Innovation and Growth, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “Many blood cancer patients are facing financial hardship caused by this unprecedented crisis, on top of their challenges in dealing with their diagnosis and treatment. We are embracing technology and gaming community to engage with a new generation of donors about the work LLS is doing to help blood cancer patients access the lifesaving therapies they need.”
“Working alongside the very organization that contributes an incredible amount of research and awareness to battling cancer has been such an honor. This campaign is doubly personal for me. As a gamer, I’m thrilled to rally an army of live streamers and fans against a new enemy. As a son, I get to hit back against a disease that my mother fought - and overcame - just a few years ago.” said Caleb Leigh, CEO & Founder of Visuals by Impulse. “I couldn’t be more proud of the great work collectively by our team, Engine Shop and LLS. Raising funds for charity just got a whole lot better. I’m thrilled to help introduce a new generation of donors.”
The fundraising goal for #TiltCancer is $250,000 in 2020. The campaign fundraising page may be found at: https://tiltify.com/lls.
