Treatment methods for myeloma patients have changed a lot over the last several years. Today, some new cancer treatments are taken by mouth, which is called “oral treatment” or “oral therapy.”
Oral treatment at home is simpler and less complicated than traditional intravenous (IV) therapy, which has to be administered by your doctor or nurse. However, along with the advantage of treating cancer at home, there’s a shift in control and responsibility from the healthcare provider to the patient. Adhering to oral medications can be difficult and this can present new challenges and issues for some patients. Medications may not work effectively if patients do not take them as prescribed by their doctors.
