The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest nonprofit dedicated to fighting blood cancer, and the national off-price retailer, Burlington Stores, team up for the 19th consecutive year to raise critical funds for lifesaving research and cancer treatments. This year, funds raised in all Burlington store locations nationwide will not only support LLS’s mission to find cures and help blood cancer patients access the care they need, but also support The LLS Children’s Initiative. LLS’s newly established initiative is setting out to change the course of treatment and care and provides much-needed financial and emotional support to the children and their families impacted by blood cancer.
From September 28th through November 30th, Burlington is encouraging customers to donate $1 or more at checkout in its more than 739 stores nationwide. Donating as little as a dollar can provide support towards cutting-edge blood cancer research, and help save children’s lives, so they not only survive but thrive after treatment.
The LLS Children’s Initiative aims to help children like eight-year-old Auden, who was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in May 2015 – one month after him and his twin sister, Emery, celebrated their third birthday. He underwent aggressive treatment causing him to have bloodstream infections and broken bones. His treatment continued until August 2018, and today, he is proud to say he is cancer-free.
“There may be dark times, but both my children are here in my arms at the end of the day, and that’s more than a lot of people dealing with cancer can say,” said Auden’s mom, Lauren.
To celebrate this year’s new campaign focus on children impacted by cancer, Burlington is pleased to host a number of celebratory outdoor drive-by ‘parades’ in front of select Burlington store locations nationwide. This event format allows families to remain safe and socially distant, while local store associates recognize, cheer and applaud these young local heroes and provide personalized gift bags to each survivor based on their interests and personal style.
“Funds raised by Burlington customers will help to support our mission priorities, including The LLS Children’s Initiative, and help change the way pediatric blood cancers are treated for our young patients and families across the nation," said Louis J. DeGennaro, PhD, LLS president and chief executive officer. "Thanks to Burlington, we will help reach more blood cancer patients with support and services at this critical time.”
